Why does LSSA offer Scholarships?
LSSA is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing the sport of soccer in Lancaster and the surrounding areas. LSSA strives to keep player fees as low as possible to allow everyone to participate, regardless of financial position or status. LSSA recognizes player fees may nevertheless create obstacles for players and families. To help eliminate these obstacles, LSSA offers full and partial scholarships to players and families on an as-needed, when-available basis.

What does the Scholarship cover?
Scholarships awarded by the Board of Directors only cover the annual player fees in effect at the time of submission. Players are responsible for purchasing uniforms, equipment, and other charges not included in the player fees. Scholarships have no cash value and are non-transferrable.

Who is eligible?
Although everyone is eligible to apply, scholarships are generally reserved for players and families experiencing financial hardship and/or extraordinary family circumstances. In addition, the head coach of the applicant’s team must submit a letter recommending the scholarship award to the Board of Directors.

Are Scholarship recipients required to make any commitments?
Yes. To be eligible for a scholarship, players and parents must commit to: (1) separately purchase the necessary uniforms and equipment, (2) abide by LSSA’s Code of Conduct, and (3) advise LSSA if the basis for their scholarship request is no longer accurate (i.e. financial situation materially improves).

How many Scholarships are available?
It depends. The Board of Directors will award scholarships based on the number of applications and LSSA’s financial position during any given year.

Should I apply for a partial or full Scholarship?
The Board of Directors encourages players and families to apply for only what they need. It’s possible the player or family may only need assistance for a portion of the player fees. In that case, the player is encouraged to apply for a partial scholarship. Conversely, players or families unable to pay any portion of the player fees are encouraged to apply for a full scholarship.
